Intel is one of the most iconic brands in the world. It is an American multinational and technology company based in Santa Clara, California, which was founded on July 18, 1968 by Gordon Moore (known for Moore’s law), Robert Noyce and Andy Grove.
The company name was coined as portmanteau from the words integrated electronics. Intel provides processors to computer system manufacturers such as Apple Inc, Dell Technologies Inc, and HP Inc. In addition to semiconductor devices, Intel also produces motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory products primarily using EPROM or flash memory technologies from Micron Technology; server motherboards; motherboards for workstations; desktop computer boards; laptop boards and chipsets used primarily in laptops; servers and networking equipment.
Intel also made possible the world’s first integrated circuits or microprocessors, which are now ubiquitous in any electronic device. He is recognized as the “founding father” of the Silicon Valley, which was established between 1961 and 1969 thanks to the efforts of Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. The company is also known for its series of Core and Xeon microprocessors, which account for the majority of its revenues. The company is also known for its leadership position in semiconductor research and development, accounting for about a third of its revenue.
The company is credited with revolutionizing the computer industry and ushering in the Second Industrial Revolution with a line of microprocessors that were so powerful that thousands of transistors could be made on one small piece of silicon. The Intel 4004 is considered to be the world’s first commercially available microprocessor with an integrated memory controller that has drastically reduced cost and space compared to previous discrete chipsets with a separate memory interface and central processing units (CPUs).
Intel has also developed products such as Intel 4004, 5100 (the world’s first microprocessor with a 64-bit central processing unit (CPU) and external bus), 8051 (for embedded applications, e.g. in controllers), Atoms (the world’s fastest general-purpose computer for chip; designed for smartphones and tablets), Celeron, Core i3, Itanium, Core i5 and Core i7.
